FLAX

Een sculptuur die zich situeert tussen zitmeubel en publieke installatie. Niet ontworpen als één vaste vorm, maar opgebouwd uit een reeks geschakelde modules. Door hun variatie in oriëntatie en moeilijkheidsgraad ontstaan er meerdere manieren van zitten, liggen of leunen. De sculptuur nodigt uit tot gebruik, zonder iets op te leggen. Sommige posities stimuleren contact en zichtlijnen tussen mensen, andere laten toe om je juist af te zonderen. Je kan in interactie treden, of er bewust buiten blijven.
De omgeving speelt mee: door de verschillende houdingen verandert ook je blik. Soms kijk je omhoog, dan weer naar een muur, een boom, een voorbijganger. De ruimte rondom wordt telkens anders ervaren en zo deel van het werk.
FLAX werd gerealiseerd op vraag van stad Kortrijk en wordt voor het eerst getoond tijdens het WONDER Creativity Festival. De sculptuur is volledig aaneengelast in staal, op vraag vanuit de stad verplaatsbaar met kraan en vrachtwagen, en afgewerkt met een duurzame poederlak.
Afhankelijk van de context — of een sculptuur al dan niet verankerd moet worden, mobiel moet blijven of aan specifieke eisen moet voldoen — ontstaan er telkens nieuwe composities en opstellingen. Elk werk is zo een unieke ingreep in de publieke ruimte.

A sculpture positioned between seating object and public installation. Not conceived as a single fixed form, but composed of a series of interconnected modules. Their variation in orientation and level of difficulty creates multiple ways of sitting, lying or leaning. The sculpture invites use, without prescribing it. Some positions encourage interaction and visual connections between people, while others allow for solitude. You can engage in a conversation—or sit right in the middle of one without participating.
The surrounding space becomes part of the experience. Different postures shift your gaze: upwards to the sky, sideways to a wall, a tree, or a passerby. The environment is reinterpreted through the body and becomes part of the sculpture.
FLAX was developed at the request of the city of Kortrijk and will be presented for the first time at the WONDER Creativity Festival. The sculpture is fully welded in steel, made movable—on request from the city—by crane and small truck, and finished with a durable powder coating.
Depending on the context—whether a sculpture needs to be anchored, remain mobile, or meet specific requirements—new compositions and arrangements emerge. Each piece becomes a unique spatial intervention in the public domain.
